Are you using the right wristbands at your event?

Events come in all shapes and sizes, from small parties of 20 people up to large multiday festivals that involve 100,000+ patrons over multiple days. Identifying paying, or authorised, guests is a challenge that every event organiser needs to address.

Most commonly, wristbands are used to identify who is allowed access to an event and who is not. Why are wristbands so popular:

  1. They are very cost effective
  2. They are non-intrusive and comfortable
  3. They are easily seen by security staff or bar staff
  4. They can be customised to meet the needs of each particular event.

If you are an event organiser, you have probably been using wristbands for years. But are you using the right type of wristband for your event? To discover this, we need to look at the two core criteria used when purchasing a wristband:

Budget

Wristbands vary dramatically in cost, from low cost Tyvek up to RFID wristbands with microchip inlays. Ideally you want to spend as little as possible to achieve your objectives below.

Functionality/suitability

Some wristbands are more durable and comfortable than others.  As a rule, Tyvek wristbands should be used for single day events, plastic or vinyl for 2-3 days and then woven wristbands for 2+ day events.

Security rating

Along with budget and functionality, if your main goal is to prevent unauthorised access to your event, you need a secure wristband that cannot be a) transferred and b) replicated. Some wristbands are surprisingly easy to copy, especially with the advance of colour scanners and printers. Ask your wristband supplier to explain the security rating of your wristband.

So are you using the right wristband for your event, and balancing the 3 criteria above effectively? For more information on choosing the right wristband, contact AAC ID Solutions at 1300 797 478 or sales@aacidsolutions.com.
