In 2011 more woven wristbands were used at Australian music festivals than ever before. The reasons for this are plentiful; but the bottom line is very simple – woven wristbands provide the highest level of security for multiday events. Tyvek wristbands, plastic wristbands, barcoded wristbands and even full colour wristbands can all be replicated due to the ever increasing availability of colour scanners, colour printers and wristband-like materials available via retail outlets. Whilst ideal for single day use, these wristbands are not a solution for multi-day festivals.

 

A genuine woven wristband, where the design in physically woven in to the material, cannot be replicated without complex equipment. For this reason, more and more festivals have turned to woven wristbands to enhance their security. With the use of metallic thread to further mystify potential forgeries, and the addition of world class slide locks or crimping locks, woven wristbands provide exceptional multiday security and can also be kept as souvenirs after the event.

Keep in mind though that not all woven wristbands are created equal! Be mindful of suppliers simply printing on to fabric, as this is also easily replicated. Be mindful of ‘pin feed’ woven wristbands, as these have proved to be dangerous at events. There are also low quality slide locks that do not grasp the fabric well and result in the wristband being transferrable.
